Salford Reds made the trek to London optimistic of a win to secure their first points of the season. Coach Shaun McRae made a number of changes following last week's disappointing defeat to Catalan Dragons with the inclusion of Matty Smith at half-back and Stuart Littler in the pack the most notable. All the early play came from Quins with the Reds defence being sternly tested.

Highland's Derrick Hill cleared 7 feet 1 inch for a new Indiana indoor track and field record at the Patriot Invitational at Anderson University on Saturday. Among other highlights for the Scots: Sam Nunn was first in the 55-meter dash in a time of 5.58 seconds. Lawrence Cotton was second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet 8.

Kawhi Leonard scored 16 points, including eight straight free throws down the stretch, and snatched 21 rebounds as the San Diego State men's basketball team defeated UNLV 55-45 Saturday in the Mountain West Conference Tournament championship. Luke Adamson, Salford's highly-rated young forward, believes tomorrow's basement abattle with the Catalans could be a major turning point in the Reds season.
